Case study of NIRPHAD - NIRD - Hyderabad, A.P.
Special studies in association with national and International
institutions include:
- Evaluation of the initial programme by the National
Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER-1985).
- The Staff College of Hyderabad conducted a health
component, simultaneously.
- The National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD)
used the NIRPHAD model for a case study.
- Two presentations were made to the ‘ child
2000’ and World Congress of Public Health Association, on the
subjects:
- "Who is responsible for the sex of the child?- the father"
(Vancouver, Canada).
- "Computer Applications for Rural Health and Development"
(Arusha, Tanzania).
- Dr. Reginald Britt, UK, (FRC Path.) has introduced
the new WHO color card and has trained the lab staff and VLCs in the
proper use and interpretation of the card. He also introduced a Hemo-Q
which is a more sophisticated and accurate instrument to measure Hb.
Levels. His study was published in the Indiana Journal of Heamatology
(Indian Journal of Hematology (Ind J
Hemat & Blood Transf 1999: Vol. 17: No 1; 14-15). This
study is the first of its kind for India and second in the whole world
where a color card was used to double check the results with a Hemo-Q.

and International forums, but the latest was at the National Defense
College, New Delhi, on the subject: "NGOs- Role and Effectiveness-Altruism
Vs. Pragmatism".
