NIRPHAD has achieved training and a better livelihood to:

1475

NIRPHAD strives to enable target groups to become self reliant and part of the national mainstream of development.

  • Bank credit at 10% interest was available through the Government Integrated Rural Development Schemes. Collateral loans were provided for agriculture and animal husbandry development & free specialized animal care through the Mathura Veterinary University.

  • Arranging short term bank loans at 4-10% interest was a major break through in breaking the evil nexus between the usurious money lenders. The compound interest was too high for the poor to repay their debts and pushed them to a life- time of bonded labour-which extended to several generations. Abolition of bonded labour by a Parliamentary Act has discouraged this evil practice.

  • ICT information from the banks on the assets of the smallest farmer, encouraged refund of loans by defaulters, which enabled setting up (during 70’s-80’s) loans in:
    • agriculture Rs. 45,00,000
    • animal husbandry Rs. 27,00,000
    • Rs.13,00,000 for cottage industries.

100% repayment with no defaulters was due to good training and high motivational techniques during training. Only one defaulter of Rs. 70,000 to the Kashinath Bank, was able to repay in small, convenient repayment schedules.

NIRPHAD required a legal Agreement for collaboration for interventions with the recipients for 25% contribution in cash and kind .

  • Bank loans payment Normally the farmers have a mind-set that Government loans need not be repaid. The community was motivated to understand that wealth and security of funds in a democracy are through the banking system and repaying loans is an essential part of character building and development. When loans are repaid the Banks can loan subsequently to other farmers, thus a domino effect which enables Banks to develop and enlarge a viable mechanism of loans.
